Netflix announced last Friday that Gerard Depardieu will play the lead in the new French political drama ‘Marseille’.
The highly anticipated French drama has already been compared to House of Cards dubbing the story as ‘a tale of power, corruption and redemption.’
Gerard Depardieu will play Robert Taro – mayor of the southern French city for 25 years. The story focuses on the forthcoming elections and the competition he has with a new, younger politician (played by Beniot Magimel) looking favorite to replace him as mayor. However, it would not be a political thriller without a few drug lords and corrupt unions thrown into the mix to make life just that little more complicated.
‘Marseille’ will premiere in early 2016 with more details to come in the next few months.
