The Last Panthers, a joint venture between French channel canal+ and the UK’s Sky, is a much-anticipated 6 hour TV drama biopic on the world-famous Pink Panther group. Reportedly stealing in the region of US$500 million, the gang are one of the most notable and organised criminal groups in history.
Featuring British royalty John Hurt, the drama will blend English and French actors including Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) who won the ‘The Cesar’ – the most prestigious award in French film-making – and Oscar Nominee Samantha Morton.
Written by Jack Thorne (Skins) and Directed by Johan Renck (The Walking Dead, Bloodline) the series will be based on real events – among which focusses on not only petty crime but high-end government corruption.
Laurine Garaude, director of conference organizer Reed MIDEM’s TV division said:
“The Last Panthers is emblematic of this new breed of event series that are internationally co-produced, set in different countries, and feature A-list talent, and which have proved to be a great success on the international marketplace,”
The release date is still unconfirmed but this new trailer cements the relationship between French and British broadcasters and the quality they endeavour to achieve.
